Lola the Frenchie – Dog Photography in Upper Hutt

I was recently honoured to have Lola the french bulldog and her owner Tracey join me for a signature dog photography session in Upper Hutt, Wellington. It was an evening that perfectly captured her joyful personality and the incredible bond they share.

I initially met Tracey and Lola at Burgers Across the World during Wellington on a Plate. With 4Paws Empire’s infamous dog burger, I was running around trying to capture all the pups eating theirs. One of these dogs was Lola and as is with her personality, she approached the burger with vigour and joy!

About Lola & Her Dog Photography Session

Lola is a lovely French Bulldog with a very strong love for life. She loves food, she loves her walks, and she is happiest when she’s out in the grass having zoomies. She adores both humans and other dogs and is genuinely just a bundle of joy to be around. One of the sweetest things she does is follow Tracey at the heel when they’re out walking. Even off lead, she naturally falls in behind Tracey’s feet which really shows the bond they have.

We did have to postpone our first booking because the rain came in, which was such a shame at the time. Rescheduling is never ideal, but in this case it truly worked in our favour. The evening we ended up with gave us some of the best light I’ve ever photographed in. The soft golden hour made it an extra special setting to capture Lola, and it was absolutely worth the initial disruption. Here’s a few of the images from her session:

During the session I got to see every part of Lola’s personality. Her love of life, her gorgeous goofiness, the zoomies, and of course the beautiful heel work alongside Tracey. It was such a pleasure to spend that time with them and observe how naturally they move together. Lola absolutely loves pinecones, but despite our best efforts we couldn’t find any on the day. Sticks had to do instead, and judging by the photos, she didn’t seem to mind at all!

Owners Thoughts on Their Dog Photography Session

A couple of weeks after the session, Tracey and Lola came by my home studio for their image reveal session. Lola was particularly excited to be in the studio and trying to get into the box of treats that were under my desk – I of course had to oblige and let her have some goodies! I took Tracey through the images and we whittled them down to a final gallery that would form a beautiful wall art trio of two panoramic montages and one artisan canvas with the golden frame.

Once the wall art arrived from the professional print lab, Tracey came to pick up her beautiful pieces, ready to take them home and think about painting her walls so they could be displayed in a deserving way. Tracey had the following to say about her dog photography experience:

“Lola and I first met Em at Wellington on a Plate, where she beautifully captured Lola waiting not so patiently, for her first "dog burger". After seeing those images, I contacted Em to see whether we could book a session to get some proper images - I have taken so many photos on my phone but wanted something a bit special to put on the wall.

The whole process of talking to Em about what I wanted and booking the session was so positive. Em really listened and understood what I wanted, what Lola's little behaviour quirks were (her ears really aren't for listening and she gets super motivated by treats) and what sort of background i wanted for the images.

The photo session was so fun for Lola and I. Lola was able to just be herself (including some French Bulldog zoomies), and Em understood that Lola has moments of frantic activity, then needs some quiet time before she is ready to interact again. Lola gets distracted by just about anything (leaves falling, other dogs in the distance, things on the ground that could be eaten or rolled on), but Em was so patient with her.

The images Em captured were really fantastic. The hardest bit was working out which ones to pick. Em captured Lola's loveable, playful energy and has created images that will be treasured for a lifetime. Exactly what I was looking for.

I would absolutely recommend Em to anyone who is looking for images of their four legged family member, that reflects their individual personality or personalities through a session that is professionally done (and fun) to achieve exactly the outcome you are looking for.

I really look forward to doing another session with Em as Lola moves through her different life stages.”

– Tracey and Lola the Frenchie

It really was a privilege to photograph Lola! I’m so thrilled that Tracey loves the images, feels they’ve truly captured Lola’s joyful personality and has some stunning wall art to commemorate the day celebrating Lola’s happiness and the connection they share. I know they’ll be treasured pieces in her home for years to come.
