breed of the month
For dog families across wellington
February breed of the month announced soon!
a new breed each month
Each month, I select one dog of the featured breed to be photographed in a carefully chosen location that suits both the breed and the vision for that session.
Dogs of the featured breed (including applicable mixed-breed dogs) can apply to be considered. Applications open on the first of every month, with the date and location confirmed in advance (for later that month).
I’ve always loved photographing different dog breeds – each one has its own personality, quirks, and unique features. Breed of the Month is my way of celebrating them, while also giving me the space to bring specific creative ideas to life
The selected dog will receive:
A full 40-60min session with Em (dog only)
One high resolution digital image of the owners choice
$200 wall art credit.
The chosen greyhound for January will also receive a special extra gift: a copy of Long Paws Finds a Home a book celebrating and supporting retired racing greyhounds.
-
Applications open on the first of each month for the featured breed. The session date, time, and location are announced with the application and will take place towards the end of the month. Dogs must be available on the set date.
-
From the applications received, one dog is selected to represent the month’s breed. Selection is based on suitability for the chosen location and Em’s creative vision, which may include considerations such as colouring, size, age, temperament, and personality.
-
The selected dog receives a complimentary session on the specified date, one high-resolution digital image and $200 wall art credit towards products (there’s no obligation to use this).
-
Around two weeks after the session, we’ll meet again where you’ll view your fully retouched images and choose your favourite image for your complimentary digital copy!
There is always more than one image to select from. As soon as your project slot is confirmed, you’ll be sent a product guide in case you would like to purchase additional images or wall art from your session. However, there is never any pressure to purchase anything!

FAQs
-
Dogs of the featured breed can apply to be considered, including applicable mixed-breed dogs. If you have multiple dogs, you’re welcome to apply if all dogs meet the breed criteria, however only one dog may be selected and photographed.
Please note, dogs who were featured in the Paws Project Calendar cannot apply.
-
One dog is selected from the applications to represent the month’s breed. Selection is made by Em and is based on suitability for the planned location and creative vision. This may include considerations such as colouring, size, age, temperament, and personality. This project allows Em to see through her artistic visions and create some beautiful artwork that you will also get to treasure.
-
Breed of the Month is a personal, artist-led project that allows Em to bring specific creative ideas to life. Offering a complimentary session also gives dog owners the opportunity to apply for a full photography session that isn’t normally available through standard bookings.
The selected dog will receive:
A complimentary full photography session (40-60mins depending on the location)
One high-resolution digital image of your choice
$200 wall art credit to use if you wish - but there is no requirement to do so.
For January only, a copy of Long Paws Finds a Home.
The session, digital image and wall art cannot be transferred or redeemed for cash. The wall art credit must be redeemed at the Image Reveal Session.
-
Locations are chosen each month to meet a specific vision and therefore change every month. All locations will be within the Wellington region – with a maximum reach of Kaitoke (Upper Hutt) and Porirua. Dogs outside of these areas can apply, but they will still need to be available for the specified location.
-
Unless specified, Em’s vision for these sessions will be dog-focused. On request, Em can take a handful of images of you and your dog during your session, but these will only be available for purchase (during the Image Reveal Session) and are not applicable for the complimentary digital file.
For the first Breed of the Month, the selected greyhound will also receive a copy of Long Paws Finds a Home – a children’s storybook celebrating retired racing greyhounds and supporting rehoming efforts, with 10% of sales donated to greyhound charities. With the recent greyhound racing ban in New Zealand, this felt like a meaningful way to shine a light on these beautiful dogs and the book has been donated for the giveaway by a lovely client.
You can purchase your own copy of the book on Amazon.
