“My dog could never take photos like that…”
One of the most common things clients say before a session is that their dog “can’t take photos like that.” They think their dog can’t do the kinds of poses they see in my images, doesn’t have much training, needs to stay on lead, or won’t sit still long enough for photos. In reality, around 90% of the dogs I photograph are on a lead and have limited obedience – especially in new, distracting environments.
The final artwork often begins with a person holding the lead and helping guide their dog into position. Once the dog is settled, they simply step to the side of the dog and are usually in the image I’m taking. After I have the shot, I’ll ask the owner and dog to leave the scene so I can capture an “empty” frame, which allows me to remove the owner later in editing. It’s a simple process for everyone and ensures the dog is always comfortable.
For posing, with a bit of luring, patience, and a few tricks up my sleeve, many dogs can do things they have never tried before. Even poses like a “paws up” can often happen within minutes once treats are involved. Rest assured, there are no training requirements for your dog to create beautiful fine art imagery.

Josh E. & Bodie
“I am so happy with how my photos turned out! Bodie is a reactive dog and we had never considered doing anything like this. Em listened to our needs, found a secluded location, and had the patience and kindness to wait until Bodie was comfortable. Her interactions with Bodie calmed him down. She clearly has a special knack around dogs. I would recommend Em, not just for the high quality photos, but the overall experience and customer service she provides. I can't wait to have a photoshoot with my other pup!”
