Meet the Paws Project Dogs: September

The Paws Project Calendar is about more than photographs. It’s about dogs, their stories, and using creativity to give back. Each month, I’ll be sharing the dogs featured in the calendar and a small insight into their lives.

A heartfelt thank you to every dog who took part and helped raise over $1800 for Ellie’s Canine Rescue through their involvement in the project.

Read on to meet September’s dogs and learn a little more about each of them…

Lila

Breed: Border Collie x Labrador
Age: 6

Where did you get her from and how old was she when you got her?

Lila came from a litter in Rongotea, with a yellow Labrador dad and a black and white working Border Collie mum. She was one of seven girls and joined her family at twelve weeks old.

How would you describe her personality in a few words?

Lila loves life and is up for anything. She is confident and happy, loves people and dogs, and is genuinely smart. She has been told she would make an exceptional sheep dog, just like her mum.

Does she have any funny quirks or habits?

Lila has a favourite person, and when that person is around, she gives them her full and undivided attention. She is deeply loyal in that way.

Mavis

Breed: Labrador x poodle
Age: 10 months

Where did you get him from and how old was he when you got him?

Mavis came from Southern Star Labradoodles in Nelson at eight weeks old.

How would you describe his personality in a few words?

Mavis is very much a teenager at the moment, with a hard time containing all of her love.

Does he have any funny quirks or habits?

Mavis loves to chew socks, and her favourite food is broccoli. When steak and broccoli were on offer at the same time, she chose the broccoli without a moment's hesitation.

Jonah

Breed: Staffy X
Age: 4

Where did you get your dog from?

Keysar Rescue in Auckland, he was 8 weeks old

What's their personality like in a few words?

He’s a goofy loving lad!

Do they have any funny quirks or habits?

Whenever he wants a snuggle he’ll present you with an offering whether it be a scrap of cardboard or a toy.

Madrone

Breed: Staffy X
Age: 1

Where did you get your dogs from?

Madrone was four and a half years old when she came to her family, having been picked up by Hutt Valley Animal Services after she was found wandering the streets.

What's their personality like in a few words?

Madrone is sassy, a bit of a diva, and very playful.

Do they have any funny quirks or habits?

Madrone's signature move is the ‘sploosh’. She lowers herself to her tummy with her legs stretched out behind her and commando crawls along the floor, with her favourite version taking her between someone's legs and out the other side. She also loves rolling around on the bed.
